China Connection
Due to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2007 between China and the U.S., China’s potential for visitation is incredible. As such, CTTC realizes the importance of easing barriers for travel, as well as the critical importance of government relations. In November, CTTC attended the International Conference on Revitalization of Tourism and Confronting Crisis, presenting a case study on the 2007 Southern California wildfires, as well as the China-U.S. Tourism Directors Summit, where CTTC signed an MOU with Shanghai Tourism.
To officially launch its new offices in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai, CTTC embarked on a series of fantastic events in these markets. High-level VIPs attended the California events, and CTTC also signed MOUs with both Beijing and Guangdong tourism officials. California was the first foreign destination to host an event at Diaoyutai State Guest House (where Chinese leaders greet international dignitaries), cementing government relations and respect among Chinese officials. California was also the first foreign destination to have events attended by the China Foreign Affairs Ministry—the highest-ranking department CTTC could be received by.
Mission CeBIT
CTTC accompanied Governor Schwarzenegger to CeBIT in Germany, the world’s leading technology trade fair, as California was selected as the first-ever Partner State. CTTC coordinated a California VIP night for over 800 German businessmen, including key travel trade and media attendees. The stars were aligned for California tourism as the Governor was able to launch the latest CTTC Web site, visitcalifornia.de for the German market, and kick off a promotion with toom supermarkets and Dertour.
