Critical Industry Segment

Power of Pow Wow
California was fully represented at the 2009 International Pow Wow by CTTC staff and representatives from all CTTC international offices (Australia/New Zealand, Germany, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, South Korea, China, Brazil and Scandinavia), along with 111 other California companies. CTTC conducted over 245 appointments with travel industry professionals and met with over 100 members of the media at the branded booth. CTTC helped create unity for California with branded pennants in all the California aisles, in addition to showcasing visitcalifornia.com at the booth. As U.S. Travel National Chair, CEO Caroline Beteta met with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke, and addressed 4,500 attendees from 70 countries regarding policies of the new Administration, U.S. Travel Political Action Committee (PAC) and DiscoverAmerica.com.

The Perfect Opportunity
The National Tour Association (NTA) represents thousands of tourism professionals who create and sell travel packages. As the largest organization of its kind, NTA is a critical audience for CTTC, and a main focus of the travel trade program. In 2008–2009, CTTC had a strong showing at both the NTA Annual Convention and the Spring Meet. For the Annual Convention, CTTC once again held its popular wine tasting reception, which drew a big crowd, and promoted rural California destinations. Since the Spring Meet was held in Monterey, CTTC also had the perfect opportunity to arrange fams for numerous tour operators to experience the state first-hand. CTTC hosted an amazing closing night extravaganza with a wonderful wine reception.
