Public Affairs
The Public Affairs program diligently works to position CTTC as an industry leader by offering expertise to media, industry and government entities and advocating on behalf of tourism industry interests to bring about public policy and initiatives that benefit the California travel and tourism industry. CTTC continues to actively promote the tourism platform; liaise with tourism-related federal agencies, administrations and elected officials to advocate for positive policy outcomes on the federal, state and local levels, in particular by supporting the Governor’s office and providing leadership for the U.S. Travel Association; outreaching through media, speaking engagements and events; and building coalitions with related trade associations.

CTTC will continue its position as a national leader through CEO Caroline Beteta’s speaking engagements and role as U.S. Travel National Chair, as well as through the Travel Leadership Summit (TLS) in Washington, D.C., in September. Beginning in 2008–2009, CTTC also facilitates an annual networking meeting with other California industry organizations, such as the California Restaurant Association, California Wine Institute and California Retailers Association, in addition to recreating the TLS at the state level in concert with the April Commission meeting.

CTTC also focuses on current issues affecting the industry, including the Travel Promotion Act, Visa Waiver Program and U.S. Travel’s “Meetings Mean Business” initiatives. One of CTTC’s main goals for 2009–2010 is to create a California Sustainable Tourism Symposium (CSTS) to both promote sustainable (“green”) tourism in California, and to assist local DMOs, destinations and attractions in promoting their sustainable components.
