New Visitor’s Guide Encourages Guests to Explore the Golden State
The California Travel & Tourism Commission just released its 2010 California Official State Visitor’s Guide and Travel Planner, a comprehensive handbook that encourages visitors to explore the wonders of the Golden State, while helping them plan their next California getaway. The annual publication, distributed free to visitors around the world, celebrates California’s glorious beaches and mountains, lush wine country, abundant farmlands, dramatic deserts, dynamic cities and fun ways to play. Each page reveals where locals go to discover, enjoy and play throughout the state, making the 2010 Visitor’s Guide the essential travel tool for exploring California’s 12 distinct regions, each with its own unique character and attractions. “Extreme Mammals” Take Over Academy of Sciences
“Extreme Mammals: The Biggest, Smallest and Most Amazing Mammals of All Time” is a new exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences from April 3 through September 12. This exhibit features some of our most intriguing relatives, from the speedy to the sloth-like, the towering to the tiny, even the venomous and the armor-clad. Featuring spectacular fossils and reconstructions alongside recent specimens and live animals, the exhibit explores the surprising and often extraordinary world of extinct and living mammals. “Extreme Mammals” will allow visitors to meet this colorful cast of characters, discover their place in the family tree, and learn why humans are perhaps the most extreme mammals of all. In addition, the Academy will continue to host “Journey to the Stars,” a new space show running though the fall. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, the show launches visitors through time and space to experience the dramatic lives and deaths of stars. The show plays 7-10 times a day, every day, in Morrison Planetarium. Media contact: Stephanie Stone, California Academy of Sciences, (415) 379-5121, sstone@calacademy.org, www.calacademy.org.
